Color Your Cabinetry: How A Pop Of Color Can Redefine Your Space
While we often gravitate toward neutral tones in our design projects in Charlotte, it's clear that we have a deep appreciation for the power of color—especially when it comes to cabinetry. We love how colored cabinetry infuses a space with both personality and character, creating intriguing visual interest. It has the remarkable ability to transform the feeling of a room; softer shades evoke a sense of calm and serenity, while deeper hues bring sophistication and depth, completely redefining a space. Whether it's a serene blue, a subtle green, or a striking black, colored cabinetry adds a vibrant pop that elevates the entire design.
We’ve incorporated colored cabinetry in both kitchens and bathrooms, in spaces of all sizes, and in many shades, and we have no intention of stopping anytime soon. ;)
In this blog, we share a few of our favorite cabinet colors and we hope it encourages or inspires you to infuse some bold and brighter hues into your own spaces!
Navy
At Delphinium Design, navy is considered a neutral. For us, navy is timeless, sophisticated and pairs well with so many other colors and materials like white, light pink, polished nickel and brass, just to name a few. This versatility is why we often incorporate navy into both kitchen and bathroom designs. Whether it's the perfect navy featured in the bathroom vanity of our Hurtt So Good project, a deep navy in our Beaver Dam project, or a rich, true navy like the basement kitchen in our White Christmas project, navy brings a touch of luxury to any space without feeling too formal.
Bright Blue
A step bolder than navy, a bright blue is the ideal choice if you are looking to add a more vibrant pop of color to your space. This hue of blue offers the perfect balance between subtle yet strong and energetic yet calming. We love how a bright blue anchors a room, instantly drawing attention with its striking presence while still allowing other elements in the space to shine. It’s what makes our Asheford Green kitchen island and Firethorne guest bathroom vanity truly stand-out.
Light Blue
There’s something incredibly calming and serene about light blue cabinetry, which is why we continue to incorporate it into our design projects. Softer than the other shades of blue we've mentioned, it offers a more gentle yet still radiant expression of color. This color of blue is airy, fresh, and bright—truly, it’s just so lovely. Whether it’s a kitchen island, like in our Minty Lemmond project, or a bathroom vanity as seen in both our Firethorne Bathrooms and Hurtt So Good projects, light blue has become one of our go-to shades.
Green
The only thing we're green with envy about is how much we love green cabinetry—we wish we could incorporate it into every project! Green cabinetry is the perfect neutral, offering a fresh, serene yet energizing touch while remaining timeless and versatile. It adds warmth without overwhelming the space and pairs effortlessly with a variety of design elements, such as hardware, plumbing, flooring, and more. Whether it leans toward a soft gray tone, like in our Asheford Green bar, or showcases a sage-inspired hue, as seen in the vanities in both our White Christmas and Back In Ballantyne projects, we love this versatile shade.
Black
When it comes to bold design, black cabinetry is our answer! Despite its boldness, black is incredibly versatile, making it an excellent choice for a cabinetry color. It is sophisticated and timeless while also being dramatic and modern, complimenting any design aesthetic. Black cabinetry creates a powerful focal point in any space—whether it’s the kitchen island in our Finding Forever on Abingdon project, the home bar in the Beaver Dam, or the bathroom vanity in our Leders from BCC project—it commands attention and adds undeniable impact. If you are looking for a high contrast but super elegant choice, we suggest black cabinetry.
